I’m Dr. Janet Rowland with Rowland Family Dentistry and this is the Dental Minute. Today is World Oral Health Day, so let’s talk about something super important—your teeth! Because trust me, they do a lot more than just help you smile.
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste helps remove plaque, the sticky bacteria that causes cavities and gum disease. And don’t forget to brush for a full two minutes—set a timer, play a song, whatever works!
Flossing? Non-negotiable. It cleans the 40% of your tooth surfaces that your toothbrush just can’t reach. Skipping it is like only washing half your face—kinda gross, right?
And let’s talk about dental checkups. Seeing your dentist every six months helps catch small problems before they turn into big ones. A tiny cavity today? Easy fix. A cavity ignored? Hello, root canal. When you come in for your check-up we are able to see the things you can’t see with the naked eye. Whether that be something way far back in your mouth or below your gum line, we are able to use the technology in our office to find the small problems before they become big problems.
But here’s the thing—good oral health isn’t just about teeth. It’s linked to heart disease, diabetes, and even pregnancy complications. So today, let’s all make a promise: Brush twice a day, floss daily, drink more water (your teeth love it!), and schedule that checkup you’ve been putting off. Your smile—and your whole body—will thank you!
