Since it’s National Mental Health Month, I want to talk about something you might not expect, how your oral health and your mental health are more connected than you think.
Studies show there’s a strong relationship between mental health and oral
health. In fact, people experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression are more
likely to have dental issues like cavities, gum disease, and even tooth loss.
And it goes both ways, poor oral health can also impact how you feel
mentally.
Think about it, if you’re dealing with dental pain, missing teeth, or
discomfort, it can affect how you eat, how you speak, and even how
confident you feel in social situations. That can lead to lower self-esteem,
increased stress, and even isolation.
On the flip side, when your smile is healthy, it boosts confidence, improves
quality of life, and helps you feel more like yourself. Simple habits, like
brushing, flossing, and coming in for regular cleanings, play a bigger role
than you might realize.
So this month, remember: taking care of your smile is also taking care of
your mind. If it’s been a while since your last visit, let’s change that. We’re
here to support your whole health, inside and out.
