I know coming to the dentist for the first time, especially meeting a new dentist can be kind of nerve wracking. I wanted to spend a little time today just sharing what you can expect as a first time patient at Rowland Family Dentistry.

If we haven’t ever seen you before, we certainly want to take a full mouth series of x-rays. Often x-rays can be uncomfortable or a little bit intimidating. but rest assured that our dental hygienists are trained in the most efficient, effective way to take those x-rays to make you as comfortable as possible. After that, our dentist will just check around your mouth. They just want to know what’s going on. They’re looking for cavities, bleeding in the gum tissue, any inflammation or anything that’s bothering you. We really want to know what brought you into the dentist today. So is it that something’s hurting or is it just because you needed cleaning or you want your teeth whiter? And we can work around any of those expectations.

Next, our highly trained dental hygienists will clean your teeth with their very specific instruments. So what they’re doing is trying to move calculus below the gum line. They’re trying to scrape off all that yucky food and plaque so that you can have a beautiful white smile. After your appointment is done and your teeth feel nice and clean, we’ll do a digital scan of your mouth. So this just gives us an overall picture of what your teeth look like. It also allows you to see all the things that we see. This is a great tool and helps everyone be on the same page if we do have treatment.

When you’re ready to leave, you’ll get a customized toothbrush, either a manual brush or if you use an electric toothbrush, we’ll actually give you a free brush head to match your existing brand of toothbrush and we’ll send you on your way. You will be reappointed for up to six months. Some appointments are shorter than that so that we can see you again and you can plan for future appointments. If you need treatment, our patient care coordinator. We’ll review your treatment plan and help you figure out what your next steps are.

We hope to see you soon and we hope you’ll be a part of our family at Rowland Family Dentistry. Call us for your new patient appointment today!
