On today’s Dental Minute, I’m just going to talk a little bit about why it’s so important that you come into the dentist two times a year, even if you’re brushing and flossing and doing all the things you’re supposed to every other day. You see, at home, you’re doing a great job removing all the plaque and staining that you can see and that you can reach with your toothbrush. But over time, that plaque hardens and becomes tartar or calculus and gets pushed down below the gum line. Well, that’s where we come in because only with our specialized tools can we reach that tartar and plaque to give you that super clean. Skipping your cleaning twice a year can result in bleeding, inflammation, and eventually periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is connected to heart disease, diabetes, even pregnancy complications.

That’s why it’s so important to come in to your dentist twice a year. When we say that your mouth is connected to the rest of your body, we mean it. During your visit, we don’t just clean your teeth. We do lots more than that. We check your gum health, the status of your tongue. We search for oral cancer, anything unusual in the mouth, and we look for signs of decay or infection. We’re really trying to keep everything as healthy as possible for you. If it’s been more than six months since your last cleaning, reach out to us. The fall is coming, holidays are upon us, and soon you’ll be wanting that beautiful sparkly smile for all of your family pictures and events. And we want you feeling your best, your whole body, not just your mouth.
